Old age is a period of life that affects the physical and mental health of individuals and also causes disruptions in lifestyle. So, this research was carried out at a day-care center with the aim of examining the effectiveness of stress inoculation training and Lazarus’s multimodal therapy on loneliness and quality of life among the elderly.
The present research employed a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measures and a control group. The statistical population of the research consisted of clients over 65. Following initial interviews and application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, a sample of 45 individuals was selected and randomly assigned to three groups with fifteen individuals in each.. In the end, the collected data were analyzed through the interactive regression analysis method.in this study, the experimental group received 8 sessions of 60 minutes , under the treatment, the control group received no treatment .
The results indicated that both interventions – Meichenbaum’s stress inoculation training and Lazarus’s multimodal therapy – significantly reduced feelings of loneliness among the elderly (p<0.01). Furthermore, a statistically significant main effect of group was observed for the quality of life variable (p<0.01). However, the difference between the two intervention groups was not significant (p>0.3).
Stress inoculation training and Lazarus’s multimodal therapy have been effective in reducing loneliness and promoting quality of life by enhancing psychological resilience. Therefore, the implementation of these interventions can be beneficial among the elderly.
