Background: Aging is a sensitive period in which examining various dimensions of mental health becomes highly important. It has increasingly been revealed that older adults can achieve adaptation and enhance or improve their physical work capacity through exercise training. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of eight weeks of Pilates training on psychological capital and body image among older women in Dezful.
Method: The research method was quasi-experimental with a pretest–posttest design and a control group. The statistical population consisted of all older women in Dezful in 2024. The sample size included 30 women (aged 65 to 75 years) who were selected through convenience sampling based on inclusion criteria and were randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received Pilates training in eight weekly sessions of 90 minutes each. The instruments used in this study included Luthans’ Psychological Capital Questionnaire and Marsh’s Physical Self-Description Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) with SPSS software version 22.
Results: The results indicated that, after controlling for the effect of the pretest, there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in the posttest stage regarding psychological capital and body image (P < 0.001).
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, eight weeks of Pilates training improved psychological capital and body image in older women. This highlights new horizons in psychological interventions and suggests that Pilates can be employed as an effective intervention method to enhance psychological capital and body image among older women.
