Abstract

Due to the aging population, the resilience of older adults, as the ability to adapt and cope with challenges, is influenced by psychological factors. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the sense of coherence and perceived social support with resilience, with the mediating role of adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies in older adults. This research method is descriptive-correlational, employing structural equations modeling. The statistical population of this study included all older adults in Khorramabad County in the year 2023, from which 250 individuals were selected through available sampling. Data collection was done using the perceived social support scale Zimet et al., the sense of coherence scale Antonovsky, the cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire Garnefski & Kraaij, and the Connor-Davidson resilience scale. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS26 and AMOS24 software. Data analysis revealed that the sense of coherence and perceived social support significantly predict the resilience of older adults. Additionally, adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies act as a mediator in the relationship between the sense of coherence, social support, and resilience. The findings indicate that the sense of coherence and perceived social support positively relate to resilience through adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies. These results emphasize the importance of creating supportive environments and strengthening the sense of coherence in older adults to enhance their resilience. Thus, policymakers and social planners should focus on developing educational and supportive programs that enhance these factors to improve the quality of life for older adults.
