Anxiety Sensitivity, Perfectionism, Loneliness and Self-esteem of elderly with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Major Depression

Abstract

Obsessive-compulsive disorder and major depression are common etiologies that they are not well defined for the association of these disorders, especially in aging. The purpose of this research was the Comparison of anxiety sensitivity, perfectionism, loneliness and self-esteem of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder and major depression. The statistical population of all people referred to the age group was 65 years old with a minimum primary education level who referred to the consultative centers and specialized clinics of psychology and psychiatry in Bushehr in 2017. In terms of a causal-comparative method, 84 patients were selected for sampling and filled Ahwaz Perfectionism Scale (Najarian, Atari, and Zargar), the scale of anxiety sensitivity ASI-R (Peterson and Heilbronner), UCLA Revised Loneliness Scale (Russell, Peplau & Cutrona), and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE) was developed. The results of MANOVA showed that the scores of the two groups is significant only self-esteem. Considering the fact that this study showed that the symptoms of depression in elderly people are low in self-esteem, the recognition of the difference between obsession and depression can be understood in order to understand the relationship between these two disorders in terms of the symptom, the epidemiology and treatment is beneficial in the elderly.
