The Effectiveness of Hope Group therapy on Enhancement of Happiness and Quality of Life in Elderly Women in tasouj

Abstract

Aging seems to be a global phenomenon which will be considered as one of the most overriding social and welfare challenges for the developing countries in the near future while endeavor to resolve aged people’s difficulties like psychic problems appears to be vital. Thus, the current study aimed to determine the effectiveness of hope group therapy on increasing happiness and quality of life in the elderly women living in Tasuj, Iran. This research was a semi-experimental with pretest and posttest control group design. Selected using voluntary sampling, participants included thirty 59- to 80- year-old women assigned randomly into two groups of experimental and control. Hope Therapy based Intervention protocol was executed on the experimental group members for eight 90-minute sessions (two sessions a week). Measures included Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ) and the world health organization quality of life scale (WHOQOL). It was Multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) through which data were analyzed using SPSS 21 software. Results indicated that hope group therapy increases happiness and quality of life significantly in the experimental group (P<0.001). According to this study, it can be stated that hope group therapy is effective to enhance happiness and quality of life in the aged women. Consequently, this kind of intervention is suggested to be implemented to scale up the elderly’s happiness and quality of life.
