Effectiveness of Yoga Therapy on Psychological Hardiness, Sleep Quality and Happiness in the Elderly Women

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of yoga therapy on psychological hardiness, sleep quality, and happiness of elderly women. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all depressed elderly women in Ahvaz in 2025. The sample size of the study included 30 of these elderly people who were selected using purposive sampling and according to the study entry and exit criteria. The experimental group received eight 90-minute weekly intervention sessions. The questionnaires used in this study included psychological hardiness, sleep quality, and happiness. The data were analyzed by multivariate and univariate analysis of covariance using SPSS version 23 software. The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of psychological hardiness, sleep quality, and happiness (p<0.001). In other words, yoga therapy increased psychological resilience, sleep quality, and happiness. According to the findings of the present study, yoga therapy can be suggested as an effective method for improving psychological resilience, sleep quality, and happiness in elderly women.
