The Effectiveness of Reminiscence Therapy on Psychological Well-being, Resilience and Mindfulness in Older People

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group memory therapy on resilience, mindfulness, and subjective well-being of elderly men. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population of the study included all elderly in Dezful in 2025. The sample size of the study included 30 of these elderly people who were selected using a purposive sampling method and according to the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria. The experimental group received eight 90-minute weekly intervention sessions. The questionnaires used in this study included resilience, mindfulness, and subjective well-being. The data were analyzed by multivariate and univariate analysis of covariance using SPSS version 23 software. The findings showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups in terms of resilience, mindfulness, and subjective well-being (p<0.001). In other words, group memory therapy increased resilience, mindfulness, and subjective well-being. According to the findings of the present study, an acceptance and commitment-based intervention can be suggested as an effective method for improving resilience, mindfulness, and subjective well-being in elderly
