Abstract

Psychological well-being in the elderly is related to various factors such as social support and coping styles. Meanwhile, mediating variables can facilitate this relationship. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between social support and coping styles with the psychological well-being of the elderly with the mediating role of self-worth. The correlational research design was of the path analysis type. The statistical population included all the elderly people of Tabriz city, numbering 4000 people. According to the available sampling method, 290 people were selected as a sample from the mentioned society. To collect data, Riff's psychological well-being questionnaires, Dartaj et al.'s coping styles, Kroker et al.'s self-esteem, and Zimmet et al.'s social support questionnaires were used. Evaluation of the proposed model was done through path analysis using Imus software. Based on the findings, the proposed model had an acceptable fit. Also, the research results indicated a direct positive relationship between social support and psychological well-being, as well as between coping styles and psychological well-being and self-worth and psychological well-being. In general, the results showed that coping styles and social support have an indirect effect on the psychological well-being of the elderly through the mediation of self-esteem. According to the findings of the research, it can be said that social support and coping styles with the mediation of self-worth play a significant role in the psychological well-being of the elderly.
